Where the Vibe Began
Before there was Peace of Mind Cafe, there was Peace of Mind Fest, a four day music and camping festival held every Labor Day weekend at Camp Muckleratz just outside of Elizabethville, PA. What started in 2011 as a small passion project grew into something unforgettable. Dozens of bands from across the country filled the mountainside each year, from national touring acts to up and coming musicians, along with artists, food and craft vendors, and a loyal family of festival-goers. Randy and Mr. Lahey from Trailer Park Boys even became part of the tradition, joining us for several years in a row. Peace of Mind Fest was more than just a weekend of music. It became a home away from home, a place where people came together, friendships were made, and everyone was accepted exactly as they were. People didn't just attend Peace of Mind - they felt it. That same sense of community, connection, and belonging became the heartbeat of the cafe.
Opening Against the Odds
Peace of Mind Cafe opened its doors on November 2, 2019, just a block up from where we are today. The space was once Daniel's Cafe, where we had hosted open mics for years, so taking it over felt like the natural next step. Getting there wasn't easy. There were setbacks, red tape, and more hurdles than we expected, but with long days, late nights, and the help of our incredible family, we finally made it happen. Then, only months after opening, the world shut down. Having to close in March 2020 was heartbreaking, but Peace of Mind was worth fighting for. By July 2020, we slowly began reopening, rebuilding step by step with the community that believed in us.
Finding Our Home
In October 2021, we moved just a block down the street into a space that finally felt like home. This new location gave us room to grow and the chance to stand firm in who we are. Over the years, we've faced moments that challenged not just our business, but our values. Times when we had to choose between what was easy and what was right. We chose kindness, inclusion, and integrity. This cafe has grown into something full of laughter, music, and connection, a reflection of resilience, compassion, and community. Peace of Mind isn't just a festival, and it isn't just a cafe, it's a feeling. It's home.
